The Missing Piece

1

(curious chattering)

2

There's nothing an inquisitive monkey likes more than discovering new things......and the museum's a great place for discoveries, like how different something can seem when you look at just a small part of it.

3

Ooh! (chattering)

4

(off-screen) Hi, George.

5

Huh? (chatters "Hi")

6

You're getting a close look at our dinosaur exhibit, I see.

7

Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh.

8

Then you'll be interested in this. This newly-discovered stegosaurus skeleton is our next exhibit.

9

(chattering) Ooh! Ah!

10

(Alvin Einstein and Anthony Pizza are digging and polishing)

11

Discovering dinosaur bones looked like the best job in the world.

12

Ooh!

13

The museum always gave George lots to think about...

14

(dog barking)

15

...unlike Charkie, who only ever thought about one thing: playing.

16

(chattering excitedly) Whoa! Ooh! Ooh-ah!

17

He'd discovered a bone!

18

(sniffing)

19

That magnifying glass would've come in handy, but Charkie was probably blocks away by now.

20

Charkie: (barking)

21

Ah! Uh-huh.

22

Charkie: (barking excitedly)

23

(chatters "Hey!") (chattering excitedly) (chattering intently)

24

George couldn't let Charkie chew on it. What if some dinosaur lost this bone on its way to the museum?

25

(Curious George dreams about him putting a bone on a skeletal dinosaur)

26

(moans)

27

(laughs)

28

Charkie: (barking)

29

(puzzled chattering)

30

The stegosaurus had all his bones. So did the triceratops...

31

(groaning)

32

...and the tyrannosaurus. If a dinosaur hadn't lost it, what kind of bone could it be?

33

(puzzled chattering)

34

Charkie: (barking)

35

(yells)

36

Charkie: (barking)

37

Ah... (hoots)

38

Luckily, there was always a box of Hundley's treats in the lobby.

39

(hooting) (chatters)

40

Charkie: (whines)

41

Man with the Yellow Hat: Hmm. Tough puzzle.

42

It was way too small to be a bone from a man.

43

Man with the Yellow Hat: You want to help with my puzzle, George?

44

Uh-uh.

45

Did he know anyone with smaller bones?

46

Ah! (chattering excitedly) Uh... Uh-uh.

47

The bone wouldn't even fit in a canary.

48

Hmm?

49

(snake hissing)

50

Huh? Ooh.

51

And it wasn't bendy enough to be inside a snake. The octopus didn't seem to have any bones.

52

Ooh...

53

George needed to find bigger, less wiggly animals.

54

(chattering) Huh?

55

A giraffe was too big.

56

(hooting) Aw... Oh. Hmm... (chattering excitedly)

57

The meerkats would not cooperate.

58

(chattering) Oh.

59

It was too small for a lion bone, and they seemed to think either the bone or George was their lunch.

60

(lion roaring)

61

(chattering)

62

This wasn't easy. All George knew, for sure, were places the bone couldn't have come from. Maybe it came from something no one had ever seen.

63

(chattering excitedly) (dreams about him putting a bone on the skeletal dinosaur)

64

Some undiscovered dinosaur.

65

You're a scientist now, George.

66

Huh?

67

But how could a monkey figure out exactly what an undiscovered dinosaur looked like?

68

(door closes)

69

(chattering)

70

Man with the Yellow Hat: Hi, George.

71

(chatters curiously)

72

Man with the Yellow Hat: Oh, I dropped some puzzle pieces. I can't finish the elephant without all the pieces.

73

The pieces George found didn't look like pieces of elephant.

74

(inquisitive chattering)

75

Man with the Yellow Hat: You found them!

76

(confused chattering)

77

Man with the Yellow Hat: Well, now, you can't tell what you've got by looking at only one piece. You have to put them all together. See?

78

(gasps)

79

So, to see what his discovery looked like, George had to find the rest of the bones. If he found one bone in the park, the rest must be close by.

80

Charkie: (barking)

81

(chatters "Oh, no!")

82

Charkie kept treating George's discovery like a toy, which may explain why you never see any dog scientists.

83

Charkie: (barking) (barking)

84

(chattering, hooting)

85

She didn't have it. Her paws were dirty. She buried it!

86

(screams) (excited chattering, hooting)

87

Charkie: (barking)

88

(gasps) (hooting) Aha!

89

Another bone!

90

(hooting happily)

91

This was George's very own dinosaur dig site!

92

Ah!

93

A dinosaur waiting for millions of years to be found!

94

(chattering excitedly) (chatters "Huh?")

95

But something wasn't right. The bones were all alike.

96

(groans)

97

Hi, George. What do you have there?

98

(chattering)

99

You found all of these?

100

Uh-huh. Uh-huh.

101

Here in the park?

102

Charkie: (barking)

103

Betsy: Charkie! So this is where you've been hiding all your chew toys!

104

(chattering) Huh?

105

Steve: Ha! Those are Charkie's missing bones, all right.

106

(hooting)

107

Steve: And we just bought her a brand-new one, too!

108

(chatters) (groans)

109

So that's why Charkie treated George's discovery like a toy.

110

Charkie: (chews a bone)

111

Betsy: What a find! We've been looking for her missing toys all year long!

112

Steve: Thanks for finding them, George!

113

Huh?

114

All you made a helpful discovery, George. Who knows, maybe someday, you'll even dig up a dinosaur.

115

Oh? Yeah. (chatters)

116

Betsy: We got to go. Bye-bye.

117

Steve: See ya, George.

118

Have fun, George.

119

Officer Ken: (off-screen) Hey there!

120

Huh?

121

Officer Ken: Have you been digging up my park?

122

Uh-huh.

123

Officer Ken: Then you've got a hole to fill in.

124

(hooting, then chattering "Okay. Okay")

125

Discovering dinosaur bones was harder than it looked. But even if the bone George found wasn't a real dinosaur bone, it was pretty close.
